Great at first.. Then it just goes downhill
At first, this item was my absolute saviour during my morning coffee routine.. It made it easy to froth my milk.
It really does a great job, and if you just want your milk hot, rather than frothed.. just take out the frother.
However, it is renowned for not being easy to clean.. I was always meticulously careful when washing this. Most of the time, I would simply rinse the inside gently with a small amount of soapy water and then dry it immediately. All of this in an effort to prevent water from touching the electrical contacts. I was absolutely sure that I hadn't done this.
Even so, one morning when I tried to turn it on, it simply didn't work. It was working fine the night before because I had made a hot chocolate. So I rang Illy & Amazon immediately. Amazon offered to send me a new one while I sent them the broken one for 'investigation'. Illy told me that it is a hugely common problem and they even told me not to waste my time again.
