Definitely offer value for money. The lower star rating is a reference to the fact that the cut of the slate for these place mats isn't as good as more expensive models where slate is even (i.e. no chips or bumps). However, the price deferential is large, there must be a reason and the reason is that these aren't quite so well cut. That said, they look great, do the job and are fantastic value. So if you want perfection, pay more. If you want something that looks great and does the job, yes I would recommend these.
